How Porn Fuels Sex Trafficking

The relationship between pornography and human trafficking is a serious concern in child exploitation prevention. Pornography can fuel exploitation by increasing demand for commercial sexual abuse and by shaping harmful attitudes that treat people—especially vulnerable youth—as objects rather than individuals.

In many cases, predators use explicit content as part of the grooming process, desensitizing children and pushing boundaries over time. Digital platforms can also be used to distribute exploitative material, making online spaces a key area for trafficking prevention efforts.

Addressing this issue requires education, stronger safeguards online, and open conversations with youth about consent, exploitation, and digital safety. Preventing trafficking means understanding the systems and industries that enable abuse, and ensuring children have protection, awareness, and trusted adults they can turn to.
